Ann Romney’s Incredible Journey –
Monday’s presidential debate has had its fair share of analyses by experts all over the world. This will not be one of them lol. To me, the debate showed me one thing, that US foreign policy is unlikely to go through drastic changes no matter who is elected President. My favorite moment of yesterday’s debate didn’t come until it actually ended, and the families of both candidates joined them on stage. Michelle Obama gracefully glided towards the stage, and so did Ann Romney, followed by another fifteen more members of the Romney family. The Obamas sort of disappeared in the wave of Romneys, but it was nice to see cordial handshakes all around after an extremely heated debate.
The greatest handshake of the night is shown here:
President Obama shakes the hand of one of Mitt Romney’s adorable grandchildren, as Ann Romney looks on with a picture perfect smile. She looked regal, poised, and beautiful. It was this picture that drove me to read a little bit more about her. Her story amazed me, and has made her, *dromroll,* the latest kick-ass woman of the week!
Ann married her high school sweetheart Mitt when she was 20 years old. He would eventually become the governor of Massachusetts, and the Republican candidate for president in 2012.
As the wife of the governor of Massachusetts, Ann has been the first lady of a state, and is now opting to achieve the national title. The 63-year-old has five sons and eighteen grandchildren, and has embraced the homemaker image sometimes mocked even by women such as current Secretary of State Hilary Clinton. Ann embodies for many women in the United States the values and principles of being a mother. The fact that she was able to balance out raising five boys, and make time to help her husband achieve his political aspirations is mind-blowing to me. Ann has definitely become an integral part of her husband’s campaign, a silent partner that gives us a glimpse into Mitt’s more personal and familial side, adding an irresistible charm that draws people to listen.
The most amazing part of Ann’s journey, which I will show in pictures below, is that she is also a survivor of MS, and went through times where her muscle deterioration was so bad she almost lost function on the right side of her body entirely. In 2008, she also went surgery to battle a non-invasive type of breast cancer. Her experience and success in battling these diseases has made her steadfast on supporting these causes and helping other people overcome obstacles caused by them. She is currently a member of the board of the North East Chapter of the MS Society, has raised millions for MS and breast cancer research, and continues to sponsor and support those suffering from the disease.
As we edge closer and closer to election day, I feel that both Ann Romney and Michelle Obama deserve much praise for all of their efforts to support their husbands. Both candidates know this, and Mitt has made history in hinting towards this in his official portrait as Massachusetts governor, where a framed picture of his wife is also visible. You have to admit that’s adorable whether or not you’re voting for him 🙂
I will leave you with more pictures of Ann with her extremely photogenic family..
Until next time!
